DESCRIPTION:IF YOUR CHILD IS CREATIVE… is crazy about puzzles\, loves to paint and draw\, can build anything out of cardboard boxes\, writes amazing stories\, thinks up whimsical new worlds\, has a flair for drama and acting\, is totally into science\, or has rewired your toaster into a working time machine (or wants to)\, then you may have a Destination Imagination child. \nWHAT IS DESTINATION IMAGINATION? \nThe DI program encourages teams of learners to have fun\, take risks\, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science\, technology\, engineering\, mathematics)\, the arts and service learning. DI participants learn patience\, flexibility\, persistence\, ethics\, respect for others and their ideas\, and the collaborative problem solving process. \nTeams meet in October through February to creatively plan and organize their challenges. Each team\, four to seven students\, and adult team manager(s) have until March 5th to develop a creative solution to one of the six chosen challenges. After months of creating\, developing and practicing their solutions\, teams attend the Regional Tournament on Saturday\, March 5 2016 at Olympus Junior High School. Teams also solve an on-\nthe-spot Instant Challenge at the tournaments\, where they must think quickly on their feet and work together to solve a problem in around five minutes. \nCompetition Levels: \n\nPrimary: non-competitive K-2nd grade (Rising Stars!)\nElementary: 3rdth grades -5th grade\nIntermediate: 6th-8th grade\n\nWHAT IS THE COMMITMENT? \nThe cost of registering a team is low—only $95 for one team. Rising Stars! teams are only $60. Teams meet at their own convenience with an adult volunteer (parent/ faculty) Team Manager\, making it easy to work around other activities. Team Managers are given a Roadmap resource to guide them as they lead the team and have great support from other Team Managers and local DI officials.
